Is a weed and feed part of your plan for lawn care this year?
If so…toss that plan in the trash, you need to figure something else out!
It’s rather simple…weed and feeds do not work!
The whole point of a weed and feed is to make things easier by combining your weed control and lawn feeding into one convenient package…sounds great right??
The problem is that the timing for effectively controlling weeds and effectively feeding your lawn simply do not add up.
The high nitrogen, quick release fertilizers found in weed and feeds are not effective until grass is actively growing and out of dormancy. By that time your lawn will be full of weeds. The post emergent herbicide in the weed and feed may kill off a few of those weeds (it WILL NOT kill all of them), but in a few weeks time there will be more weeds taking their place in your lawn. Thus beginning the never ending cycle of you battling weeds in your lawn the rest of the year.
The ONLY way to effectively control weeds in your lawn is to SEPARATE your weed control and feeding. Weed control is done now using a pre-emergent, and feeding is done later by itself. This is how you stay ahead of the game instead of constantly playing from behind.
Consider this…there is not a professional lawn care company out there that uses a weed and feed. On top of that, the biggest brand of weed and feeds on the market (which will go unnamed) actually has a lawn care service….and guess what? Even they don’t use their own weed and feed!
There are good pre-emergent products and fertilizers out there, don’t cut corners for the sake of convenience. You will be disappointed!
