We've talked about the grassy weeds taking over, but what about all those little purple flowers? That is Henbit. Henbit is another cool season, winter weed that can absolutely take over a lawn in early March. If you had a fall pre emergent put down, you probably aren't seeing this weed. But if you missed the fall pre emergent and Henbit is starting to take over, the best thing you can do is crank up the lawn mower. As the temperatures rise, Henbit will start to die off, and keeping it mowed down will help speed up that process. Don't forget about the spring pre emergent either....just like with the grassy weeds, once this Henbit dies off there will be another weed quickly taking its place if you haven't taken action with a spring pre emergent!
