Diagnosing problems in your lawn is often a process a process of elimination.
Watering issues and soil compaction are always the first two things we look at...and a simple screw driver test will speak volumes for both!
The screw driver test is simple…take a 4-6" screw driver and push it into your lawn. If it is difficult to push in all the way, or if you can't push it in all the way, then you likely have either a watering or soil compaction issue (or likely both!) . If the screw driver pushes into the ground with ease, then you can eliminate those two issues and move on to something else!
Always start with the screw driver test!
